Participate in a spectacle that has more than 300 years of uninterrupted tradition. On this journey back in time we take you to El Morro Cabaña Fortress for the famous Cañonazo Ceremony, which takes place every night at exactly 9pm. The sound of the cannonball, which can be heard in most parts of Havana, used to alert Havanans to the closing of the gates that protected the city from pirates and corsairs. It was a sign that the city was safe at night.
For this experience, we will pick you up at your hotel and make our first stop in Old Havana in the heart of the historic center for a walking tour of the 4 main squares: San Francisco de Assis, Plaza de Armas, La Catedral and La Plaza Vieja. On the way to the fortress, our guide will explain the history of the ceremony. Once you arrive at the fortress you will appreciate the most exquisite panoramic views of Havana at night. This historic site dates back to the 18th century and today houses the historic Museum of Arms, as well as the former office of Che Guevara. Throughout the year, the immense fortress is also used for shows, conferences and music and literature festivals.
Every night, the young people of La Cabaña dress in the same clothes worn 300 years ago during colonial times, and replicate the ceremony to keep it alive. After the ceremony, we will take you to dinner at La Bodeguita del Medio restaurant. And at the end of the night we will return to your lodging to rest.
